Susan Weil
Susan Weil was born in New York City in 1930 and attended BMC in 1948. In much of her work, there is a clear focus on the deconstruction and reconstruction of images through mixed media works including collage, paint, and blueprints. Weil studied with Josef Albers at BMC alongside artists Willem and Elaine de Kooning, Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg and Cy Twombly. Her work has been influenced by many notable figures in the Abstract Expressionist movement such as Josef Albers and through collaborations with her husband Robert Rauschenberg (1950-1952). She has studied in Paris and exhibited in places such as Sweden and Germany as well as many places in the United States including The Metropolitan Museum of Art and The Museum of Modern Art, New York; the J. Paul Getty Museum, L.A. Weil was also a recipient of a Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship and a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship.
