Cy Twombly
Cy Twombly was born Edwin Parker Twombly Jr. in Lexington, Virginia in 1928. He was an American painter, sculptor, and photographer who studied at BMC in 1951 and 1952 under the suggestion of Robert Rauschenberg. The artist drew his inspiration from poetry, mythology, and classical history which portrayed an experimental energy in his pieces. Twombly has had work displayed in places such as the Museum of Modern Art, New York; Tate Modern, London; the Whitney Museum of Modern Art, New York; and the Art Institute of Chicago. He create relationships with other BMC artists such as artist Robert Rauschenberg, composer John Cage and photographer Aaron Siskind. The artist died in July of 2001.
