Neil Noland
Neil Noland was born in Asheville, NC in 1927. He served in the United States Navy and attended BMC from 1949-1950. Noland also studied at L'Académie de la Grande Chaumière, Paris in 1951 and Escuela de Bellas Artes, Madrid in 1952. He worked as an assistant for sculptor Anthony Caro from 1965 to 1967 and for his brother Kenneth Noland, who also attended BMC from 1967-1976. In 2002, he was awarded a grant from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation for his work as a sculptor and ceramist. He considered his work to be a “melding of painterly concerns and sculpture”. Noland lived in Amagansett, NY and worked as Workshop Director of Sculpture Sites. He died in 2013.
