Harry Callahan
Harry Callahan, born in 1912 in Detroit, MI, is known as one of America’s most influential post-war photographers. Having attended BMC in 1951, he experimented with subject matter and stylistic experiments in his photographic work. Callahan has taught at several places including the Design Institute of Chicago and the Rhode Island School of Design. He has also received many honors for his photographic work such as the Guggenheim Fellowship of 1972 and Honored Photographer of the Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie in Arles, France in 1977. Prior to his death in 1999, Callahan’s work was exhibited in numerous museums including the Museum of Modern Art, NY and the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
